But, when the Dodgers declined his $16 million option after that season, it led to a disagreement over his value that led him to sign with the Red Sox. The Dodgers offered him a one-year contract worth $10 million, and he signed a two-year, $21.7 million contract with Boston.
Turner was furious at the split. He said, “I never imagined myself wearing any other uniform… I made it clear what I wanted. I don’t know what happened, but it happened.”

Dodgers use Turner’s money on J.D. Martinez was drafted and it proved to be the right decision, as he hit 33 homers and 103 RBI.
Turner’s return and new chapter
On Monday, Turner finally seemed at peace with the breakup and was eager to write a new chapter. He said, “What happened, happened. I think how I felt at the time was pretty well documented. But nothing has changed. I am still very grateful for the nine years I spent here.”
